The Rhode Island Teen Book Award 2012 announced the 20 nominees for books published between 2009 and 2011. The award committee nominated the 20 titles based on their literary quality and their appeal to teens. The titles under the ‘Recommended for Middle School Students’ are After Ever After by Jordan Sonnenblick, Ghostopolis by Doug TenNapel, Sources of LIght by Margaret McMullan, Touch Blue by Cynthia Lord and Woods Runner by Gary Paulsen. Among the ‘Recommended for All Teens’ titles are Birthmarked by Caragh M. O’Brien, Borderline by Allan Stratton, Heist Society by Ally Carter, Matched by Ally Condie, Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalup, Shutout by Brendan Halpin, Trash by Andy Mulligan, and Yummy: The Last Days of a Southside Shorty by G. Neri & Illustrated by Randy DuBurke. Recommended for High School Students are Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson, Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver, I Will Save You by Matt de la Peña, Numbers by Rachel Ward, Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly, Split by Swati Avasthi and Teenage Love Affair by Ni-Ni Simone.
